Across the Thames Valley, we are committed to transforming our health and care estate so it better supports the needs of our growing and diverse communities. Our ambition is to create modern, sustainable facilities that make it easier for people to access high‑quality care closer to home. This work is central to the wider transition toward the new NHS Thames Valley Integrated Care Board, which is focused on improving population health outcomes, reducing inequalities and ensuring consistent, high‑quality services for the 2.5 million people we serve.
Improving our estates is not simply about buildings - it is about enabling care that is more joined‑up, convenient and responsive. As part of national NHS reforms, Integrated Care Boards are expected to work more efficiently and collaboratively, ensuring that decisions about services and infrastructure deliver maximum value for local people. This includes redesigning how care is delivered across neighbourhoods, strengthening relationships with community providers and investing in facilities that support preventative care and early intervention.
By enhancing our estate, we aim to support clinical teams with the spaces and tools they need to provide exceptional care; reduce variation in patient experience across the region; and expand access to services that keep people well, independent and supported within their communities. These improvements will help ensure that every resident, regardless of where they live, can benefit from accessible, modern and high‑standard NHS care.

Patients across Slough and East Berkshire will benefit from quicker, easier access to vital tests with the official opening of the Slough Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC).
The new £25 million centre is part of a national NHS programme to improve access to diagnostic services and a key milestone in Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust’s 2030 vision for modern, inclusive and connected healthcare.
The centre will deliver up to 150,000 additional tests each year, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, X ray, lung function and blood tests. Open seven days a week, the service is designed to reduce waiting times, bring care closer to home, ease pressure on hospitals, including Wexham Park and will support GPs and community clinics so urgent patients are cared for more rapidly.
Dr Nick Broughton, Chief Executive, NHS Thames Valley ICB, said: “It’s fantastic to have this vital community facility in Slough. The opening of this new state-of-the-art centre is great news for local people, and its benefits will be far-reaching — helping patients to be seen sooner and enabling earlier diagnosis of health issues. Community diagnostic centres are playing a key role in transforming care by bringing essential tests and services much closer to home.”
